Why I write

Why I write

#publish

Like every aspiring author with imagination and words, I have always thought of writing. It’s just something I do. Life gives us stories to tell and you have to find ways to tell them. Some tell them to their kids, some to strangers, some write, some speak, some show. Some never say anything. What are we if not a good story. I am sure everyone has it we haven’t just found it.

Tell me the truth, tell me the lie but make it interesting!

So this is why stories must be told. With some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style. That’s not what Maya said but it resonates. Even comedy can be compassionate yet funny. Even tragedy can have a bit humor and glamor. It’s how you fell it

There have been stories bubbling inside me wanting to come out. A part of my mind with melancholy and memories. Some are figments of my imagination and inspiration. I owe my style to reading some great authors. My favourite genre of Indian contemporary short stories.

No one wants your sob story. Everyone wants the real thing. Anyone knows what’s a winners script and a losers script. You can also do anonymous. After all, what are we if not a good story.

Keepsake is particularly a journey. I went thru a deep process of uncovering my memories and putting them in perspective and on paper. I cried a little, I laughed some, and sometimes it was the musky smell of petrichor or a stinking hurt. All shades, smells  and tastes of memories and dreams. Most of them day dreams when I sat in the sun and wondered about people and life. The conversations that happened and those that happened only in my head. How much is it truth and how much is this memory a figment of an old time barely remembered but mostly felt.

The next book I am working on is a comedy. The most tragic comedy in my life is mother hood. I have been so blessed but also it has a painful journey. A one of great expectations and acceptances. When you add humour to history, you can remember it in a good way. What is the point of remembering past in a bad way. It only hurts you. Try to put things in perspective which is what my stories try to do.

Each having a life of its own. From mine to ours now. I love each and every story. Hopefully one day for someone else too. A story will be their favourite and an author will be their favourite. You never know!
