Letter to my daughter
Maya Angelou, the only reason I know this woman is because her quote is some thing I believe is my life mission. It inspired me when I read it first and I continue to live by its spirit.
Finally I got to read a book by her. It was a collection of essays, poems, anecdotes and thoughts. It gave me a good view of the woman so revered and famous. Her strong mind and words carry the weight of her art and stories. However they could have been more personalised or releatable. May be because she doesn’t really have a daughter.
Because I would have written it differently. I would have taught her about strength, yes. But also vulnerability, companionship, joys and laughter, sisterhood, motherhood and following your dreams. I would have taught her acceptance but also advise her to keep her passion fired. Accept her body, heart, soul, mind and creativity. Your loved ones matter and remember you can make friends any time all the time. Your dreams are important to feed your soul but you also need sustenance to follow them. Hope you find a work which helps you contribute to the world, gives you meaning and fills your soul.
