Stand up for Trevor Noah

Title: Born a crime

Author: Trever Noah (probably ghostwritten)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

A non fiction, biography, never ever I thought in my life that I would like it. After reading about another colored man’s experiments with truth in South Africa, I was done with biographies. I found them too preachy and perfect. Even in their troubles their hair are in place and mind is calm. How ever even at my best looking I am feeling extremely uncomfortable and unclassy.

Anyways, it was a decent surprise to find this book. A gift from a fellow bibliophile and friend Anne. You should always have such friends in your life. I carried it from Bengaluru where we met to Chandigarh and somehow lost it there. Two years later on a recent visit this appeared in one of the book shelves. In a reading home books find their ways to bookshelves and not so reading homes next to newspapers. So this became my holiday read and over next two weeks, it entertained me.

From smiles, laughter, to sadness and anger at the life dealt to people. Still there is a way to get there when you make smart choices and someone is rooting for you. Trever Noah’s passion and his mom’s beliefs make him what he is today. An honest, intelligent and funny man. He does prove that you can say anything even the most difficult and sensitive ones with ease dabbed in humor. We are all not perfect but can we laugh at our flaws.

If anything racism, bigotry, classism, gender, politics, culture, and life is full of ridiculous things. You can make people aware and show them the mirror where they can change just by a realization rather than a criticism. He speaks about the unfair deal of racism, poverty and domestic violence.

This is the first time I read a male author talk about his mother. A beautiful ode to his mother, it is more than a feminist could ask for. He has his issues with his parents but he is able to accept them for the love they have rather than judge them for their flaws. I definitely understand that parents are not the best but they do their best.

I am not a certified fan of Trevor Noah, fully inspired by his journey. If there is one book you want your teen son or daughter to read about life, then this must be your pick. Hilarious yet real. It gives you a high even on the lows of life! While Noah in bible was 600 years old, Mr Noah is a wise young man with much to learn from.

Quoting Noah,

On hustling

On free women

On growing up with abuse
