Some Stories

I am always looking for stories.. in books of course, but also TV, films, people, conversations and newspapers. An editorial by Ashwin Sanghi a popular Indian author talked about Hindu festivals targeted by advertising world. A social cause and a catchy religious place to appeal to middle class urban and rural classes to associate good ness with their brand.

Forget the message, I get hooked to the emotion. My father and mother are nearing 70s. The age comes with its own innocence. Your parents get slow and quieter. Can’t hear properly, walk longer or do things easily. They are like wise children. Where you have to take care of your growing kid and arguing parents both demanding in their respective ways. The child is your responsibility and you take responsibility of those who were responsible for you. It’s an exchange if not an obligation. It’s mostly love and respect too for everything they do.

This story of a man leaving his father behind is poignant. In no way it justifies the act of the man. But it helps retribution. We all make mistakes but do we have the courage to say Sorry. To those we hurt. To the poor decisions we make. To our acts of selfishness. To the anger and jealousy.

Stories are what they are! Not all stories have a retribution. But for the reader a retribution gives a closure. The faith that all will be well in the end. We don’t think life is a runway to death. We think we have so many great things to do and live for. We don’t expect an accident, a crime, a fraud or a sad news. But that also keeps happening constantly. If not those we still rile in our day to day miseries. If no significance for poor and the world. Our own little stories created of small issues and smaller victories. As we pass thru the path to death.

Stories are many small or a one large version of all our lives. We live to tell stories, to be stories. So what’s your story.
