This is a story of a dysfunctional family. A Punjabi father living in Singapore trying to bring up his three children in the ways passed over generations. The story changes narrators with every character who appears in the plot which gives the story various angles.
This book and the characters question the taboos of a perfect society, spectrum of sexuality and mental sickness. Any kind of mental sickness is not spoken about in most cultures. When you don’t understand something you make your own interpretations rather than making an attempt to understand. People are called lazy, inefficient, shameless, or under influence of ghosts or substance.
They are laggards for simply not fitting the box that we have created as a society. Why would anybody choose different? Why would anyone behave different? Have we ever thought that may be they need help? May be there is more to see, to understand.
Sometimes it’s all about kindness and listening. If we do this much we can resolve all our problems!
