Top 10 Bollywood Villains
There are many filmy villains and the competition was very tough with options like Priyanka Chopra in Aitraaz, Simi Garewal of Karz, Ashutosh Rana in Dushman and Sangarsh, Manoj Bajpai, Prem Chopra, Pran, Gulshan Grover, Ranjeet, Sambha-Kalia duo from Sholay, R-one or Raavan, Kanhaiya Lal, Premnath, two remaining Puri brothers - Madan and Om Puri, and the sexy sultry sirens Helen and Bindu or old bitter women Shashikala or Manorama.
It's a countdown because I want to keep the suspense.
10. Kancha Cheena (old Danny Denzogpa or new Sanjay Dutt)
I remember Danny from the old one, villainous yes but a villain becomes popular with a strong hero to fight and here it was our superhero Vijay Deenanath Chauhan haiiinn!
9. Balma and Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor)
Balma is so purely simply evil. He is so ordinary and basic that he can't be anything but a creepy parasite. When a man is so lowly there is hardly and difference between man and an animal. Nothing human about him.
Crime Master Gogo again by Shakti Kapoor is in the same league of super villain. But he is other side of basic. Super cute as if he took villain Giri as a profession than for the evil traits. He is more of comedian but never has been a cuter villain. Remember "ankhein Nikaal ke gotiyan kheloonga."
8. Langda Tyagi (Saif Ali Khan)
Crippled and malicious. Remember the hunchback villains on old novels. Yes if you are crippled you are also a jealous malicious wicked man who lies and plots for men to fall. His greed and vengeance is worse than a snake, he will bite you when you least expect. For she's crippled have been shown as miserable and malicious - 300 hunchback, Heer Aur Ranjha's Kaido, crippled sisters in 'Suraj ka Satvan Ghoda'. Does being a cripple make you of a bitter disposition. It makes fir an interesting discussion. The portrayals, but there is definitely no truth in it.
7. Rahul (Shahrukh Khan - Darr)
Well the other hero who falls in Top 10 villain category is Rahul. Rahul name has been quiet hit with SRK along with Raj. Both hero names but here Rahul is villain. Baazigar act was more vengeful whereas Dare was pure villainous - madness being the only reason. Isn't that the only quality needed to be pure villain. Logically you should be good but fact is we act illogical due to a certain amount of madness in us. I liked Shahrukh till he did villainous acts. Hero stuff does not suit him. He seems to be the guy who will use his powers for evil purpose. That's what super villains are made of.
6. Shakaal (Kulbhushan Kharbanda)
Not the best one, he looked too fake with his bald look and slow speech and deep enunciation of words, to create terror but what he had was the evil knievil - the pit of deadly crocodiles where he put his victims to a gruesome death. He also had a very hi tech den. That's something and moves his to 7th place. See a super villain must have his evil tools like every superhero has a super weapon, villains have super evil traps and tricks.
5. Lion (Ajit)
This guy was probably the most villainous dialogue rendition. No one really was scared of him. But his evil plans, tricks and laughter and mostly the Lion jokes which have become popular over the years. A villain must have his evil plans and Lions evil plans were known to Saara Shahar!! Here is one...
"Lion: Mona daarrling, tum Toni ke saath ghuumna band kar do, nahin to bahut MonaToni ho jayegee..."
4. Maharani (Sadashiv Amrapurkar)
He does deserve to come in Top 5. Brilliant performance and no one could have done better. Ugly and a eunuch, he will take out his anger on the world. Life has been tough on him so why do they all cry. He-she has fought against destiny to reach where she was - Maharani of her small evil kingdom!
3. Doctor Dang (Anupam Kher)
A man with a mission to destroy India. A representative of all the bahari taqat out to split our country into parts. It is pure villain against a righteous jailer. He will use the best if criminals and create an army to fight outside powers. If criminals can turn good imagine anyone can turn patriots. He has his own den too. Isn't that enough to qualify.
2. Gabbar (Amjad Khan)
Now is the baap of all villains. Ha bar has been the poster boy of all Bollywood villains, with his greed and blood hunger, he sort of tops the list. But you see he has no hi fi den just living in the wilderness, he has no fancy gadgets just poor local guns and horses, and his enemy a crippled Thakur and two small thugs. Good dialogues and acting but lacks chutzpah! You get it!
1. Mogambo (Amrish Puri)
And here is the villain of the villains... "Mogambo Khush Hua" for winning first prize what else. Amrish Puri has a great body of work as a villain - Ajooba, Tridev, Trimurthi, Naagin, Hatim Tai, Tehelka, Saudagar, Kishan Kanhaiya and many more.
Mogambo has a huge den in a secluded island, three huge rockets to destroy entire country, he does kala dhanda, mixes kankar in daal, spreads unrest through public bombings, kills innocent children. How evil! He also has chutzpah with an evil acid pool to drown and burn his victims. better than crocodiles you see!! And his hero is no normal common man or vengeful man, it's a man with super invisibility powers, a wacky heroine and a bunch of kids! And not to forget wacky evil lines, laughter and his style of moving hand full rings on white bowl!
I always feel acting as a villain is more fun than hero stuff! Great job guys!!!
