Manto - A Story

A story was written a 100 years back.. it was told a many times, it was remembered a many times.. There are plays based on him, there are articles written about him, his birth place, his relationships, his trysts with the law and partition, but I keep thinking only one thing - what if Manto read or saw any of it. I can see him just brushing all this off with a wave of his hand. He never cared what people think of him, what they ever thought of him, whether they adored him, whether they remembered him. He wrote because he wanted to, he wrote because he had a story in him which needed to be penned down, to be told, he was a story teller..

Then how did he become MANTO from a simple story teller.. did he want that.. he just wanted his stories to be told and shared.. but people forgot about them and talked about him, his character, his thoughts behind them, his influence on them.. but he was just an audience when these stories unfolded in front of him. He was just an observer who saw an event and just told it as a story... he was independent outsider then how did these stories become a result of his behavior, thoughts, alcohol, frustration, confusion, etc etc... and that brings me to the one question...
Can a Story Teller be independent of his Story!!

Once the story is read, why people judge the story, if they do why they judge the author, why they judge his thoughts or ideas, why they judge his pen, why they just don't believe that he is just a medium, a silent observer, an audience just like them. He wants them to see it as it was... they way it happened...the way he saw it...

I myself have tried to judge him, form opinions on him, bracket him, cast him, accuse him, appreciate him, applaud him, remember him, and that is where I make the mistake.. I love his stories not him. Each story of his is independent and alive, a living thing in its own.. and his own story is just another story...

A Story Teller is independent of his Story.. in fact a different Story...

But we don't know who has written it... God or Manto himself...

Remembering Manto - a story independent of his Story teller...

  1. Wowa, What a superb perspective on Manto, judging something or someone is programmed into our mind even theory of evolution states it.

Human tendency is curiousness and by judging we try to justify ourselves.

Nyways its just nt about Manto, from shakepeare to G.B shaw all were tried to be judged.
